Electrophysiology Coordinator, RN

Job Status/Hours: Full time, 1.0 FTE

Position Summary:
The RN in this position is responsible for the clinical care coordination of the electrophysiology patients, primarily focusing on the ablations and lead extractions. This RN is part of a team of electrophysiologists (EP) and advanced care providers coordinating the care of electrophysiology patients and facilitating communication between patients, providers, and other ancillary departments.  

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

  • Receive and review patient referrals for appropriateness, reviewing with an electrophysiologist and EP APP as needed  
  • Triage acuity, determine timeline of care in collaboration with electrophysiologist 
  • Establish contact with patient/family and explain process and work-up 
  • Obtain all outside imaging and required medical records  
  • Have all testing available for EP consult visit 
  • Assist patient/family with navigation of testing and EP visits   
  • Participate in development of treatment plan  
  • Facilitate scheduling and authorization of procedures  
  • Contact the patient 48-72 prior to procedure to provide pertinent medication instructions and verify date and time of procedure 
  • Contact the patient 48-72 hours post discharge and then as needed until stable 
  • Participate in follow-up visits and coordinate further follow-up if necessary 
  • Provide thorough and comprehensive patient and family education  
  • Coordinate concerns among multiple departments including but not limited to cath lab, EP Lab, anesthesia, CT surgery, echo, vascular, hospital units 
  • Initiate and coordinate education for hospital and clinic staff 
  • Available to patients and families through all stages of care   
  • Establish strong working relationship with surgeons, interventionalist, APPs, and device representatives 
  • Establish strong work relationships with EP lab staff, OR representative and anesthesia  
  • Occasionally provide cross coverage for structural heart technologies such as TAVR, Mitraclip and Watchman  

Employment Selection Criteria:

  1. Five to seven years of RN experience required  
  2. BSN nursing preferred  
  3. Diplomatic personality, with strong drive to grow and own a program 
  4. Clinical assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation skills  
  5. Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred 
  6. Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with physicians, patients, staff and public  
  7. Sound knowledge of electrophysiology procedures and diagnoses  
  8. Ability to educate patients, families, staff, and students  
  9. Strong ability to problem solve and multitask  
  10. Ability to anticipate needs of patients while working closely with physicians to establish plan of care/continuum of care 
  11. Enthusiasm for new treatment options for high-risk patients
